Shine Internship - HOPE Series
by Elizabeth Nkoana
Hope (definition)- a feeling of expectation and desire for a particular thing to happen. Throughout the year of 2020 and 2021, I believe one thing that has kept us sane is hope. Hope that the next few months would be better, and as the 31st of December 2020 came upon us, we hoped for a better year. Hope never dies. While you are still breathing, still alive on this planet, hope never dies.
Your hope can take you to new heights. Hope grants you wings even when all else fails. Hope is important to me because without it, my 18- year-old self would have not seen beyond the dusty roads in the rural areas, nor would I have had the courage to resign from a job that I believed offered me security, but hope for a better future gave me courage and hope never dies. Hope keeps the fire in me burning. Having supervisors who are proud of me gives me hope and perspective no matter how challenging the internship can be. As a spiritual person I invite God in this journey and I reflect on the word of God on daily basis: Instead of wishing or hoping for something to happen, a believer knows that their hope is solid, concrete evidence because it is grounded in the word of God and we know that God cannot lie {Hebrews 6:18; Numbers 23:19}.
Hope is an optimistic state of mind that is based on an expectation of positive outcomes with respect to events and circumstances in one’s life or the world at large. As a verb, its definitions include: “expect with confidence” and to cherish a desire with anticipation.
THE POWER OF HOPE
Hope is the belief things will work, especially when it seems otherwise. It helps me stay calm and peaceful when something less than desirable emerges. Hope believes I will get through it. Hope remembers the times I made it through.
THE PURPOSE OF HOPE
To have hope is to want an outcome that makes my life better in some way. It only can help make a tough present situation more bearable but also can eventually improve our lives because envisioning a better future motivates me to take steps to make it happen.
